The Temple

What is the Temple?

The temple is a key element in understanding the end times.   The temple is present throughout the history of Israel.  It is critical to the fulfillment of the end times.  It is present in the Old Testament and the New Testament and in New Jerusalem.  However, the form of the temple changes with the Covenants.   The Old Covenant temple is natural and made by the hands of men.

Mat_24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

The New Testament Temple is made by God himself being the body of Christ.

Joh_2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

1Co_6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Rev_21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

The new testament temple is more glorious than the Old and it is the mystery foretold by the prophets.

Zec_6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
Zec_6:13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

When we get to the New Covenant temple there can not be any return to the lesser glory of The Old Covenant temple that was built by men.   The following is a brief excerpt concerning the temple from my book the key.

(Excerpted from My Book “The Key”)

“Another topic that is a key to the interpretation of prophecy and end
times is the Temple. The temple is critical to the fulfillment of Daniel’s
seventy weeks. In many of the popular interpretations, the last week of
Daniel’s seventy week is separated from the other sixty nine weeks and
placed into the distant future. In order for the seventy week (the last week)
to be fulfilled, the Jewish temple must be in existence.
Since the Jewish temple was destroyed in 70 AD by the Romans, the
prophecy cannot be fulfilled unless the temple is rebuilt. As a consequence,
many of today’s writers look for news in modern day Israel of plans to
rebuild the temple as a sign for the fulfillment of the last week of Daniel’s
seventy week. This interpretation is known as the futurist view. This view
of the temple appears to drive these writers entire prophetic interpretation.
The interpretation is built around the ethnic Jews and their temple.

The Jews were chosen for Christ’s sake, not Christ for the Jews sake.
The focus of the bible has never been the Jews but rather the Jew who is the
one seed. Jesus is the one seed.
The assumption by many Christians is that God turned his focus away
from Israel for a time and now the church is his focus. Then a time will
come when Israel will again be his focus. This view in my opinion elevates
the natural man of Jewish/Abrahamic descent above Christ himself, for
the church is Christ’s body. In this view, Christ who is above all and the
fulfillment of all the promises, he and his church must then be demoted
because of a rebuilt temple and the resumption of animal sacrifice. This
makes the sacrifice of Christ’s blood of no consequence. At the very least
it requires Christ’s sacrifice now to be augmented by animal sacrifice. This
view rather anyone admits to it or not, gives Christ partial credit and partial
glory.”

The teaching that there will be a rebuilt natural temple in Jerusalem appears to be the result of a futuristic interpretation of the last week of the seventy weeks prophesied in Daniel.  I call this the gap theory.   I will venture to show that scripture does not teach that  there is a gap between any of the weeks of Daniel’s prophecy.   But, rather this is an invention of John Nelson Darby, and american bible teacher of the 1800’s.   The view was popularized by Cyrus Ingerson Scofield who was a follower of Darby through his work the Scofield reference bible.  Understanding the truth about the gap theory, will give us a correct understanding of the temple in the history of Israel.

  4. Thank you for another informative website. Where else could I get that kind of information written in such an ideal way? I have a project that I am just now working on, and I have been on the look out for such information.
